Joshua Mutua is a seasoned environmental and climate change professional with over eight years of experience across the private sector and government. His expertise includes environmental and social safeguards, climate change adaptation and mitigation, disaster risk management, integrated water resources and watershed management, agroforestry and sustainable land management (SLM), stakeholder engagement and the
application of GIS and Remote Sensing to support informed decision-making. With a Master’s Degree in water shed management and Degree of Environmental Science. Joshua has successfully implemented projects funded by Government of Kenya and international organizations, including USAID and the World Bank. His extensive knowledge and skills in these initiatives underscore his ability to manage complex, multi-stakeholder projects with a focus on sustainability and resilience. Deeply passionate about sustainability, Joshua is committed to creating a more livable world by driving innovative solutions in environmental conservation, climate resilience, and sustainable development. He is registered with NEMA as a Lead Environment Expert (NEMA Lead Expert – Reg. No. 8906).

  • GIS and Remote Sensing: Proficient in spatial data analysis and geospatial technologies including ArcGIS, QGIS, SEPAL, and Google Earth Engine (GEE) for land use mapping, environmental monitoring, and project planning.

  • Environmental and Natural Resources Management: Strong capacity in sustainable land use planning, biodiversity conservation, ecosystem restoration, and integrated natural resource governance.
  • Water Resources Development and Management: Technical expertise in water harvesting systems, watershed management, irrigation planning, and sustainable groundwater development.
  • Project Management and Resource Mobilization: Experienced in designing, implementing, and monitoring development projects, including proposal writing, budgeting, donor reporting, and securing funding from bilateral and multilateral agencies.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Competent in facilitating participatory processes, conflict resolution, community sensitization, and multi-stakeholder coordination for inclusive development.
  • Data Collection & Digital Tools: Proficient in using digital data collection platforms such as ODK, KoboToolbox, and Survey123, with advanced skills in data analysis using Excel, SPSS, and Power BI.
